USA Swimming executive director Chuck Wielgus has passed after a battle with cancer.  More here

During Wielgus’ tenure, there were 156 podium performances by the U.S. Olympic Swim Team in five Olympic Games, including 33 medals (16 gold) at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The medal count has equated to approximately 33 percent of the total Team USA count.


Mike Unger has been named interim CEO of USA Swimming.  More here

In his 24 years at the national governing body, Unger has served as Chief Operating Officer, Assistant Executive Director, National Events Director, Marketing Director and National Team Coordinator.

Finally, 54-year old Glen Bruemmer died during the swim portion of yesterday's Ironman in The Woodlands.  More here

McAfee said multiple people tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate Bruemmer.

Organizer Scott Langen said the event continued for the many others who had trained and prepared for months, but said a dark cloud remained over the celebrations at the finish line.

"As far as the family, our hearts go out to them, and immediately when an incident like that occurs, our shift in focus goes to that family," Langen said.

Bruemmer's cause of death has not yet been released.
